There are few things more beautiful than watching the shaping of hand-blown glass. Its molten form breathing, stretching, yielding to gravity and intention. It’s the same quiet choreography that underpins Mark Douglass’ work: a deep respect for material, the patience to follow its natural rhythms, and the intuition to know exactly when to guide and when to step back.

It was a privilege to spend a day with Mark at Melbourne Glassworks, profiling both his ethos and his practice.

I storyboarded, conceptualised, and edited this film as part of a strategic campaign for Arbour Park - an Elenberg Fraser designed collection of residences inspired by the neighbouring Surrey Hills parkland. Each home featured an exclusive series of pendant lights by Mark Douglass, their forms echoing the shape of the gumnut seed.

To achieve that distinctive texture, Mark rolled the molten glass through baking soda, creating a crackleur effect - a process punctuated by the hiss and crackle captured by our on-site sound team.

A truly rewarding storytelling opportunity, aligning the craft and character of these residences with the artistry of glassblowing by hand.
